A Very Special Visit From Kalyn Ponga!
Today we were lucky enough to welcome Football Superstar and Newcastle Knights favourite Kalyn Ponga to our preschool! It was the perfect way to end the term, and he brought so many smiles, so much joy, and plenty of excitement to our children.
Throughout the year, our Wednesday, Thursday, Friday group has shown a huge passion for rugby league and the Knights. They have followed the team closely, talked endlessly about their favourite players, and shared their enthusiasm with their friends and educators. To follow and extend this wonderful interest, we invited Kalyn to come and talk to the children, and to their absolute delight, he did!
Kalyn spent time speaking with the group, answering some of their thoughtful questions, and chatting about his journey in rugby league. He was kind, patient and incredibly generous with his time.
He even signed a Knights hat and ball for us to keep at preschool, as well as the children’s jerseys, which made their day.
Here are some fun facts we learned about Kalyn Ponga:
He grew up playing many sports, not just rugby league, including touch football, basketball and golf.
He made his NRL debut at just 18 years old.
He represented both Queensland and New Zealand at junior levels because of his multicultural heritage.
He loves surfing and spending time at the beach.
He won the 2022 Dally M Medal, recognising him as the NRL’s best player that season.
We are so grateful to Kalyn for visiting and for making the children feel so special. What a wonderful way to end the term, full of excitement, inspiration and unforgettable memories!
